The city of Äänekoski is doing everything it can to cope with the drastic change in the area's business life
The dark news from Äänekoski continued today, October 11.10.2024, 100, when Valtra and ACGO announced that they would start change negotiations concerning the persons covered by the collective agreement of white-collar workers and senior white-collar workers in the technology industry. The negotiations concern a total of 60 jobs in Finland. At the Suolahti factory, the reduction applies to approximately 1 white-collar jobs. Valtra employs a total of approximately 300 people at the Suolahti tractor factory. The reason for the change negotiations is the change in the market and the company's new operating methods. We are extremely worried about the jobs and future of our residents if the layoffs come true.
Construction of Koulunmäki school

The new C building of Koulunmäki unified school in the city of Äänekoski will be completed in 2025. The 21 million euro investment is in many ways a model example of modern school construction. It will have its own premises for the city's youth services and the Ala-Keitele music college.

Teaching well-being skills
Äänekoski all 1.-9. the classes use a well-being skills curriculum called Good growth, which provides the structures and foundations for how schools can systematically and consistently strengthen the well-being of children and young people. At the same time, the marginalization of young people can be prevented. A large part of the materials of the well-being skills curriculum can also be used in early childhood education and pre-school education.
Entrepreneurship education
The city of Äänekoski is a pioneer in entrepreneurship education in Finland. In Äänekoski, preschool education, all schools and high schools use the Entrepreneurship Education Path entrepreneurship education curriculum. Local sponsored companies are a significant resource and cooperation with the local business community is close. Äänemessut is the city's entrepreneurship education's own fair event, which is implemented in cooperation between entrepreneurship education and the city. Young people are also supported in finding summer jobs and summer entrepreneurship.

Open higher education
Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences (Jamk) and the Open University of the University of Jyväskylä jointly offer open higher education in Äänekoski. The city of Äänekoski supports the studies of its citizens by awarding open university scholarships. In addition, young people aged 18–29 who have moved from Äänekoski to study elsewhere are entitled to an annual study scholarship of 350 euros, if they keep Äänekoski as their home municipality.
