Information about high school
The number of students at Äänekoski high school is between 300-350, the staff is about 25. In a medium-sized high school, we know each other and the atmosphere is safe and confidential. We care about our entire community.
Äänekoski high school is an international, active high school with an emphasis on entrepreneurship education. The high school building is new and modern. The course offering is really broad and versatile. The language selection is especially good. All national courses are implemented as face-to-face teaching.
The high school's adult line is also customized and courses can be taken together with enthusiastic young people.
Äänekoski high school operates a sports academy. Cooperation with higher education institutions is also close. Erasmus activities bring international guests and we get to get to know other countries and cultures ourselves. Through entrepreneurship education and business sponsor cooperation, we make bold bets and exits together, such as organizing the annual Äänemessut.
Special investment has been made in guidance and student care. The high school has a study counselor and a special education teacher to ensure personal guidance. In addition, the high school has a curator and a health nurse. Group sizes are reasonable.
Äänekoski high school, originally Äänekoski Yhteiskoulu, was founded in 1931. The old high school was located on the side of the forest factory on the bank of Häränvirta. The high school in the small factory town has been remarkable since the beginning. The new Äänekoski high school building was completed in the summer of 2017.
The new high school is close to the Piilolanniemi campus of Northern Central Finland University. The high school and Poke together form a large secondary school campus with plenty of opportunities. The new premises are clean and healthy and, above all, meet the requirements of modern times. At Äänekoski high school, we study, learn new things and have fun.
Concrete cooperation
International and so-called the high school following the biopath makes concrete cooperation with higher education institutions by offering higher education courses directly in the course tray. Sports academy studies can be completed throughout upper secondary school under the guidance of a professional coach. Entrepreneurship and working life cooperation are implemented as study courses and with the help of sponsored companies. Combined studies are possible on the secondary school campus.
We work closely with the University of Jyväskylä and Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences. With the entrepreneurship and working life curriculum, we have boldly stepped out of school. Many kinds of cooperation with local companies have been inspiring, and most recently we realized the wonderful Ääne fair.
Äänekoski high school is an accredited Erasmus school. We have been able to visit Hungary, Germany and Belgium. In turn, our new international friends have gotten to know the Finnish school system. We are an official Ambassador school, and we have been able to get to know the European Union's decision-making in Brussels.
Tutor and student union activities are lively and the relationship between teachers and students is immediate. Äänekoski high school is known for its community spirit and good spirit. We take care of each other and give the opportunity to build a future that looks like the student himself.
At Äänekoski high school, we have taken it as our central task to build a community. Our main job is studying, but we are learning for life - how to be human among people. We are given to each other, to fulfill the mission of man.
There is a grand piano in the lobby of the high school, the school has its own library and exhibition space, and breakfast porridge is offered every morning. The gym is in active use. On Wednesdays, the high school has a siesta, which can be used to rest or work together.
High school is the best and most rewarding time in human life. Carpe diem!
