The Pähkinäsaari 1323 border carnival, crowned with lively humor and lively music, will visit the Mikkosal of the Painotalo. The show explores Finland's history and cultural differences through humor and music, offering insights but at the same time in a mild folk theater way.

700 years have passed since the peace of the mythical Pähkinäsaari was concluded. The touring professional theater, Maarianvaara theater celebrates the important beginning of Finnishness with the Pähkinäsaari 1323 border carnival traveling around the country in the years 2023-2025.

The show has toured Finland for 40 performances so far and received excellent audience feedback. The exploration of Finnish history and cultural differences through the means of humor and music has been especially praised, at the same time offering insights but at the same time in a mild folk theater way.

In the Pähkinäsaari 1323 performance, stage artists Henry Räsänen and Timoi Munne and hanuriist Janne Vänskä will perform.

The Pähkinäsaari 1323 border carnival asks if there are two peoples living in Finland and how do East and West Finns differ from each other?

The cultural differences, which manifest themselves in language, ways of thinking, illness, as well as in the ways of cutting hedges, are transformed in the performance into a powerful theatrical play and a time travel to centuries of history.

The performance was directed by JuhaIt's Joensuu.

"Maarianvaara theater's way of diving into the thoughts evoked by the peace of Pähkinäsaari is warm, captivating laughter"

"Otsa is not deaf in the border carnival. It's delicious to joke about cultural differences. The intentionally over-articulated and over-acting trio formed by Henry Räsänen, Timoi Munnen and musician Janne Vänskä does its job with a lot of stage experience with confidence, strikingly, precisely and energetically."
