Self-composting of bio-waste must be reported
The obligation to collect bio-waste separately applies to all properties
Bio-waste must either be collected in a bio-waste container that can be emptied by the waste company, or bio-waste must be composted on the property yourself. In Äänekoski, the waste management authority is conducting compost inspections this week.
Compost can be shared by two close neighbors. Bio-waste cannot be transported from a leisure property to a permanent residence, unless it is located in the vicinity of the leisure property (500 m). Bio-waste should not be mixed with mixed waste to be used as energy.
If bio-waste is not collected separately, the property will be charged for unsorted mixed waste.
This means that the customer pays three times the mixed waste processing fee for their mixed waste. The dish emptying rhythm is also checked to match the biological waste emptying rhythm.
THE WASTE MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY MUST MAINTAIN A REGISTER OF COMPOSTING PROPERTIES
The waste board of the regional waste management authority Sydän-Suomen is required by the Waste Act (646/2011) to maintain a register of properties that self-compost bio-waste. Pursuant to § 41 of the Waste Act, the holder of the waste must provide the municipal waste management authority with information about the small-scale processing of bio-waste on the property:
The notification must be made for each property separately.
The notification must be made within 2 months of starting composting.
If you have made a declaration before 2023, you must do it again.
Notification of biowastecomposting must be renewed to the waste management authority every five years.
The waste management authority must also be notified in writing about stopping composting.
NOTIFICATION OF YOUR OWN COMPOSTING TO THE WASTE MANAGEMENT AUTHORITY
Composting must be reported with a composting notice, which can be found at: www.saarijarvi.fi/asuminen-ja-ymparisto/jatehuolto/jatehuollon-lokameket/.
