The Finnish Railways Agency informs: Blasting works will begin on Valtatie 4 at Konginkangka
Excavation and blasting work will begin on Highway 4 between the southern and northern exits of Konginkangka in January. Due to the excavation and blasting works, traffic is not directed through the Konginkanka settlement, and there are no detours in use. Traffic will be stopped for a maximum of 8 minutes.
The danger area is marked on the terrain with signs warning of blasting and excavation work. Explosions are also warned by an audible signal.
When driving from north to south, i.e. in the direction of Jyväskylä, traffic is stopped before the northern exit of Konginkanka. When driving from south to north, i.e. in the direction of Oulu, traffic is stopped on the north side of the Konginkanka southern exit. The passing lanes in the area will be taken out of use during the excavation and blasting works.
The works are related to the improvement of the overtaking lanes of highway 4 near Konginkanka. Traffic safety will be improved by building a central guardrail on the road and by increasing lighting. In addition, in the Konginkanka area, the curves and hills of the road will be softened, which will improve visibility and the drainage of water from the roadways.
- The works will significantly improve the safety of overtaking in the area. We try to minimize inconvenience to traffic during work hours and we hope that everyone on the road will exercise patience and carefully follow the signs during work hours. We apologize for the noise and traffic inconvenience caused by the excavations, project manager of the Norwegian Railways Agency Jarmo Niskanen says.
Excavation and Blasting works are aimed to be completed during 2025.
The Vt 4 Konginkangas–Kalaniemi contract is part of the Vt 4 Äänekoski–Viitasaari passing lanes project, where new passing lanes will be built and existing passing lanes will be improved, and two interchanges will be implemented. The goal is to improve the safety and smoothness of traffic and transportation.
