Japanese, Finnish and Kazakh landscapes

"For me art is a way of rethinking my journey through countries and cultures. I was born in the Soviet Republic of Kazakhstan in Soviet Union, and then lived in the independent Republic of Kazakhstan. Most of my working career I was tightly connected to Japan, and now I found myself in Finland. Art helps me to find my place in a mixture of cultures that have been surrounding me and affecting my life and personality.
I started painting as soon as I moved to Finland in 2016. The radical changes in life, the language barrier and social exclusion during the first weeks of immigration on the one hand, and the sense of security and inner freedom I unexpectedly felt here, on the other hand, gave me the energy and inspiration to paint. At the garage sale, I was looking for dishes and blankets for my new home, but found a couple of canvases and an old set of oil paints. That was a special period in my life, when I was in dire need of rethinking my previous experience and searching for directions where to go next. That was the start of my artistic career.
I am a self-taught artist. My main areas are impressionism and expressionism. I paint with oil, acrylic and watercolor. I like to experiment with materials and different types of paper.
Currently I live and work in the residence of the art center Järvilinna (Laukaa) and invite everyone to visit my studio there.
In this exhibition in Äänekoski library, I present a series of landscapes painted in oil on canvas, as well as in watercolor on rice paper. In my paintings - the nature of the three countries that had the greatest impact on my life - are the Kazakh mountains and steppes, the Japanese sakura and the mountain-deity Fuji and the forest and lake landscapes of Finland.
This exhibition is organized with the support of Kansan Sivistysrahasto."
