Hiskin cabin and sauna
The Hiskinmökki in the center of Äänekoski is the oldest building in the city, which has been renovated and is available for rent by everyone. It has been really popular. Next door is a sauna building from the 1800th century, which was opened in 2023 completely renovated.
The cottage has been moved to the other side of the stream at the end of 2019. The renovation and restoration work of Hiskinmöki was completed in the fall of 2020, when its entrance was renewed and a disabled toilet was added. At the same time, the space was taken over again for general rental use.
Hiskinmökki is the oldest and only remaining building in the residential area of Hiskinmäki built around the mill of a miller named Hiskias. The cottage was built in the 1800th century. The first mill was already located at the end of the 1500th century on the bank of the rapids. Hiskinmökki was originally a bakery. It also served as a Sunday school and gathering place for the people of the nearby Tienoo area. Hiskinmokki can be rented for events.
Hiskinmöki's sauna
In 2021, the 32 square meter sauna building was dismantled log by log from the factory area on the other side of the stream and brought to the city's land. The original building is from the 1800th century. Commissioned by the city of Äänekoski, the students of POKE's log course assembled the building and completely renovated it.
The frame of the platforms is built from solid logs and the platforms are also thick planks. The sauna has both a wood and electric stove, and the city orders firewood from the workshop. The building has running water, a shower and a toilet. The sauna cabin's small cabin has a fireplace and the equipment also includes a refrigerator.
