Schooling of placed children and young people
Sisukas activities in Äänekoski

Koulunmäki unified school is involved in Pesäpuu ry's Sisukas activities. The teaching arrangements for pupils placed in Äänekoski from other municipalities are managed centrally through the Sisukas team. The team finds out the students' needs from the teaching point of view and plans the school path with the cooperating parties.
The goal of the Sisukas team is to ensure the smooth start of the school when a new student is placed in the municipality. When starting a school, smooth cooperation with the investing municipality and the child protection unit is important. Activities emphasize multi-stakeholder cooperation and teaching is organized in cooperation with Äänekoski of the Note group (Younoren Oma Tie), with general education groups or separate small groups according to the student's needs.

Working with Sisukas helps a child or young person start school. Adults ask and listen to the student's opinion about how school is going. Together, we find out what the student's strengths are and where he might need help. Adults at home and at school work together to make the child's schooling easier. For two years, we work together and monitor the student's progress. Finally, let's celebrate the joint journey along the learning path. The smart always succeeds!
School enrollment of placed children in Äänekoski
The school path of a placed child
1. School registration. The social worker or the child welfare institution informs the student's Sisukas team according to the instructions above. Satu Tarvainen receives initial information, contact information and basic information about the student.
2. Initial clarifications. The Sisukas team's contact person calls the student's own social worker, parents and previous school. This creates an overall picture of the situation and the school history of the child or young person. Alternatively, the information can be collected using the school entry form. The Sisukas team requests school-related documents and information about the student's study situation from the student's previous school. The Sisukas team will report the student to the nearby school when sufficient investigations have been completed. There will be a preliminary discussion with the school about the school place.
3. Getting to know each other. The Sisukas team and a representative from the future school meet at the student's institution, and the overall picture of the student's situation is clarified together.
4. School meeting and agreements on teaching arrangements. A school meeting will be held, in which the student, teacher, study guide, department supervisor, director of the department, the school principal and also the social worker and guardians can participate.
In the meeting, we discuss the teaching group, the length of the school day, the subjects to be studied and the necessary forms of support. In addition, we take care of the administrative decisions that the organization of studies requires. (e.g. special support decision, POL 18§)
5. Starting school. The teacher of the Sisukas team gets to know the teaching place with the student and together they plan the schooling.
School attendance begins with one of the following teaching arrangements:
- Local school general education group
- Note group (including Sisukas operations)
- Hybrid model from the previous ones (Note group + integration in some subjects into the general education group)
- Local school small group
6. Monitoring and refinement of plans. Network meetings or smaller school meetings are held according to the student's situation and needs. The Sisukas teacher takes care of convening the meeting and monitoring it. The composition of the network can be changed as needed. The Sisukas team helps the placed student in matters related to school attendance.
