Kindergarten meals

The food services of the city of Äänekoski offer breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack to around 540 children in early childhood education every day. Children in shift care are also offered dinner and an evening snack. The goal of daycare catering is to provide the child with sufficient and versatile meals, to maintain the child's physical and psychological well-being through nutrition, and to guide and raise the child in healthy eating habits.

When producing day care food services, we take into account the nutritional recommendations of the State Nutrition Advisory Board, in which attention is paid to the amount of salt, sugar and fat, the quality of the fat and the use of fiber. The planning and implementation of food services is guided by the recommendations of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health for the organization of day care meals.

Daycare meals must cover 2/3 of the child's daily nutritional needs in full-day care and one-third in half-day care. There are restrictions/food items to be avoided in the diet of children under one year old.

Äänekoski's Food Service Center Lipstika takes into account small children as customers, e.g. in the structure and seasoning of food. Breakfast is prepared in the kitchen of each kindergarten. A good breakfast and snack includes porridge or bread, berries or fruit on their own or as food, milk or a milk product and vegetables.

Special diets

When a child needs a special diet either based on a doctor's certificate or religious conviction, the parents must comply notice of special diet and return it to the kindergarten staff. The food service staff prepares all children's special diet meals in accordance with the announcements. Absences of a child who needs a special diet must be reported to the kindergarten.

Day care meals are part of the basic care for children, for which the nursing staff and food services of day care centers work together with parents. Parents are welcome to familiarize themselves with the kindergarten's meals. In matters related to meals, you can always contact the daycare's food service directly to the responsible person.

It is very challenging to assess the food consumption of large schools, so there are leftovers almost every day. As part of the active climate and environmental work of the city of Äänekoski, surplus food from schools is not thrown into bio waste, but has been donated to those in need through partners for years.
