He guides the selection of materials Law on public libraries. According to the law, the public library must promote the population's equal opportunities for education and culture, the availability and use of information, as well as the culture of reading and multi-literacy.

In addition, the law obliges the public library to promote opportunities for lifelong learning and competence development, as well as active citizenship, democracy and freedom of speech. In the implementation of the goals, the starting points are community spirit, pluralism and cultural diversity.

The material is selected on professional grounds, taking into account different perspectives and worldviews. Material that violates human rights is not selected for the library. The age limit recommendations are taken into account in the selection and placement of material in departments.

Selection of material

The task of the public library is to maintain a diverse and renewing collection. The collection is developed in such a way that it preserves not only temporal depth but also qualitative versatility. The library monitors the use of the material and, if necessary, reacts to demand and changes in usage patterns. Changes in the structure of the customer base as well as local and general social phenomena are also taken into account.

Books, magazines, films, games, music, maps and language courses are acquired for the library's collections. Materials are obtained in printed or electronic form. The choice of storage format is determined by content, purchase price and demand. The library acquires a limited amount of printed material that is freely available online in electronic form. The library only acquires material whose copyrights allow borrowing or use in the library.
