Kindergarten and school visits

The library invites kindergartens, elementary and middle schools, and secondary schools for guided visits. During these visits, you get to know the library's services, collections and information search, and you are advised to read a wide variety of things, from picture books to non-fiction books.
Visits to kindergartens and clubs
Children's groups are welcome to borrow material in addition to library opening hours and self-help hours, but also in the mornings before the library opens. In that case, you book an appointment for the group in advance with the library's advice.
On the ground floor of the main library, there is a snack corner for eating your own snacks and a music room/storytelling corner that can be reserved for groups. We ask groups visiting the main library to be aware of other customers moving around the premises during self-service hours (10.00:12.00 a.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.).
Getting a library card for the group
If your kindergarten group or club does not yet have its own library card, you can easily get one by visiting our library. The card is the responsibility of a responsible person named in the club or daycare group, who takes care of renewing and returning loans on time, as well as informing the library of information that may change, for example when the person responsible for the card changes.
The library does not charge reservation, late payment or notice fees for material borrowed by clubs and kindergarten groups, but will invoice for lost or damaged material.
Liikkuva Lainaamo operation
Liikkuva Lainaamo is the Äänekoski libraries' lending service that visits outside the libraries to borrow material. The activity is aimed at those kindergartens that are located outside of walking distance from their nearest library. If possible, the service is also offered to, for example, club groups.
Book packages for groups
We also offer a book bag service for kindergartens and clubs. In the library, you can collect a ready-made package of books related to a current theme, for example, and the user of the daycare center or club's community card can pick up the package from the library at the agreed pick-up time. We ask that you leave your wishes for book packages about a week in advance by e-mail or by phone to the nearest library.

School class visits
All Äänekoski libraries invite the classes of their nearby schools for guided visits to the library. During the visits, the library is introduced, the first library cards are obtained, information search is taught or books are recommended. Every fall, the library informs schools about the next academic year's visit schedules.
In addition to guided visits, classes are also welcome to independently borrow material and work on their own projects in the mornings before library opening hours. We recommend booking a visit time for the group in advance by consulting the library.
In the main library, the downstairs playing room/storytelling corner can also be reserved for classes, for example, to hold reading lessons.
We ask groups visiting the main library to be aware of other customers moving around the premises during self-service hours (10.00:12.00 a.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX p.m.).
Visits to Sumiainte and Konginkanka libraries
Sumiainte and Konginkanka libraries have their own class visit programs, the schedules of which can be flexibly agreed with the library clerk.

Library cards for students
Central library cards are issued for first-graders' library visits. Children under 15 need a completed library card form with the guardian's signature. The first library card is free.
Library card form and rules of use (Keski libraries)
The guardian can fill out card application online by identifying with e.g. bank credentials.
We ask that the forms filled out by guardians be returned to the library no later than 2 weeks before the class visit. Forms returned later will be processed after the visit and the student can pick up a completed card from the library together with the guardian.
Along with the first Library card, first graders are also given one to take home Hello guardian! -brochure, which describes the use, responsibilities and rights of the Library Card.
Children under the age of 15 must have a card form signed by their guardian, even when a new card is issued to replace a lost Library Card (€2,00/card). Alternatively, a person under 15 can get a new Library Card by visiting the library with their guardian.
Getting a library card for the class
A school class can get its own community customer library card. The class teacher or other designated responsible person is responsible for the card, who takes care of renewing and returning loans on time, as well as informing the library of possibly changing information, for example when the person responsible for the card changes. The persons responsible for the class cards are checked in the libraries every school year.
The library does not charge late or notice fees for material borrowed by schools with community customer library cards, but reserves the right to bill the school for lost or damaged material.
How to prepare for a class library visit?
It is recommended to set aside at least 1 hour 30 minutes for the class's library visit, including transitions, so that the students have enough time to explore and borrow books on their own in addition to the common portion (approx. 30 - 45 minutes). You remind the students before the visit to bring their library cards with them, so that everyone who wants to can borrow.
If you need to cancel or postpone the visit time agreed for the class, please contact the library's advice first.
Book sets to borrow for schools
Schools can borrow book sets of 10 or 25 books intended for classes, which are not loaned to other customers. Books are borrowed according to the agreement to the school's or class's own library card. Please note that books are NOT loaned to the teacher's personal library card. Books are delivered to be picked up at the library closest to the school. The loan period for book series is 3 months, and renewals can normally be done in the online library. You can leave reservations for the series on loan by contacting the library. If the class borrows additional books that are not part of the school series, please note that the extra books have a normal loan period (28 days)

Book packages for school classes
We also offer a book package service for school classes. The library can collect a ready-made book package for e.g. a class reading circle or on another requested topic. The user of the class's community card goes to pick up the package from the library at the agreed time during the pick-up time. We ask that you leave your wishes for book packages at least a week in advance by e-mail or by phone to the nearest library.

Reading on the fly - Keski libraries reading diploma
The children's sections of the Äänekoski libraries share the same as the Keski libraries Reading on the fly diploma. The reading diploma is completed by reading or listening to at least 6 freely chosen books as audio books. The diploma has four challenge levels:
- A good reader (6 books)
- Reading hero (12 books)
- Reading Master (24 books)
- Reading ninja (read the most books in the class)
Keski libraries produce online reading tips lists, where Book Recommendations are traditionally divided by class level (eppu-topu, kolkki-nelkit, viikki-kuukit). Graduates of the diploma can choose reading according to their skills and interests from the list of their own grade level, from another grade level or from outside the lists.
Theme book lists for middle school and secondary schools
We update the theme book lists especially for the use of middle schools and secondary schools To the Kirjasampo service. The listed books are generally available in Äänekoski libraries.
