Koulunmäki unified school is the largest school in Äänekoski, with about a thousand students in the center of Äänekoski. The school has grades 1-6. and upper grades 7-9. Äänekoski high school, originally Äänekoski Yhteiskoulu, was founded in 1931. The old high school was located on the side of the forest factory on the banks of the Häränvirta river. The new Äänekoski high school building was completed in the summer of 2017.
