Information about the school

The old school building was renovated and expanded in 2005-2007. Hietama school has about 80 students: grades 1-2 is a joint class, the others are separate. The school also has pre-school education. The school has good teaching resources and the school has five classroom teachers, one guidance counselor, a traveling language teacher and a principal.

Hietama school is like a village school, familiar and safe. Here, nature is close and forest trips are part of the school's everyday life and learning. With the large gymnasium at Hietama school, it is a very important hobby place even in the evenings and on weekends. Next to the school, there is a youth club house, a skating rink and a rink, an outdoor gym, a chewing track, wonderful orienteering terrains, lighted tracks, and the villagers' shed is also used by the school staff.

The different classes cooperate a lot and preschool education is involved in the activities of the 1st-2nd grades, which lowers the threshold for entering school. The school has active student union and godparent activities, e.g. the older ones help the younger ones put on skates or read aloud to them. Hietama and Honkola schools cooperate a lot, such as joint tournaments with other green area schools.

From Hietama school we go to middle school at Suolahti unified school.

The whole village is also actively involved in the school's activities, and the parent and student committee are active and organize a lot of things to do, trips and camp schools. At Hietama school, people are encouraged to participate in many kinds of activities, competitions and tournaments. Regular visits are made to the library, swimming pool, art museum or Huuha park. You can also go on an ecological cycling trip!

Hobby opportunities around the school

The school has active and free club activities through the Harrastaminen Suomen model, such as the popular Lego robot club. Our school is a neighborhood school in the villages of Hietama and Parantala, and thanks to the large gymnasium, it is an important place for exercising even in the evenings and on weekends. The school yard is a comfortably equipped playground, for which we received new equipment in the summer of 2017. In the spring of 2018, a frisbee golf course was completed next to the school. There is also a playground in the yard. In the immediate vicinity of the school, there is a two-kilometer-long lighted piste, which is used as a ski slope in winter. Koulunmäki Unified School

Koulunmäki unified school is the largest school in Äänekoski, with about a thousand students in the center of Äänekoski. The school has grades 1-6. and upper grades 7-9. The A building of Koulunmäki school is new and modern, the B building is an old, valuable site and the new C building will be completed in 2025 and currently the middle school students are in evacuation rooms. Near the school in the center, all city services, the library and sports facilities are within walking distance.

Suolahti Unified School

The Suolahti unified school is the second largest school in Äänekoski. 1.-9. there are about 600 students in the class and 73 staff members. The school has long traditions and the teaching facilities are new and modern. Suolahti unified school has excellent sports facilities: there is an ice rink, an artificial turf field, a Frisbee golf course, two gymnasiums, a gym and a swimming pool. In addition, the school has active international activities.

Kongingkanka school

Konginkankaa school offers a good growth environment for the child! The school is located in the center of Konginkanka, in the middle of beautiful nature and lake scenery and close to services, such as youth facilities and a library. Konginkangka school has pre-school and grades 1-6. The school has a village school-like atmosphere and in a country school, children get to be children for a long time!

Koivisto school

Koivisto's school is inventive and vibrant, a genuine village school in the scenic fields of Koivistonkylä, near Hirvaskanga. In addition to the log school building completed in 2019, there is also an over 100-year-old old school called Perinnetalo. In May 2024, a kindergarten was completed in connection with Hirsikoulu.

Honkola school

Honkola's beautiful and traditional village school is located in the middle of nature, on the edge of the forest. The forest named Humpala for children is used a lot both in teaching and as a playground during recess. At the school in Honkola, 1.-6. -classes. Äänekoski high school

Äänekoski high school, originally Äänekoski Yhteiskoulu, was founded in 1931. The old high school was located on the side of the forest factory on the banks of the Häränvirta river. The new Äänekoski high school building was completed in the summer of 2017.

Northern Central Finland Vocational College

Pohjoinen Central Finland's vocational college offers teaching in several different courses. The necessary competence has been acquired or will be acquired through work experience in the field and theoretical studies. The degree qualifies for university of applied sciences studies and a university degree.
