Information about the school

The Sumiainen school serves grades 1-6. The school has 61 students and we study a lot across class and subject boundaries. Sumiainte school has a good human resource. The staff consists of a total of seven people: five class teachers, a class teacher-principal, a special education teacher and one permanent guidance counselor who is also responsible for afternoon activities. Pre-school education works in connection with the school, and the school's operations become familiar already at school.

The school classes are located in several buildings: the beach school, i.e. the green building, has two classrooms as well as spaces for school and afternoon activities. The former middle school, i.e. the yellow building, has three classrooms, a teacher's room and two small group work spaces. On the ground floor of the library there is a technical classroom and a music classroom. In addition, the school has a separate gymnasium and dining area as well as a kitchen. The school also has a gym.

The village school-like school emphasizes functional working and learning. We spend a lot of time in nature and in the forest with the students. The school's people go hiking on Mörköpolu every year, and the nearby forest is used a lot for learning. Regular visits are also made to the swimming pool, the art museum and other places in the city.

Sumiainen school is famous for big drama projects, which are a joint effort of the whole school. The Sumiainen school also has social-pedagogical horse activities and with the school's pilot group of 3rd-4th graders, they practice e.g. emotional and interaction exercises with godpony Ossi.

Hobby opportunities around the school

The Sumiainen school band has good exercise opportunities! Nearby is e.g. frisbee golf course, sports field, multi-purpose arena, harbor, private beach and nearby are the best nature spots in Äänekoski, such as Mörköpolku and Sumiaisten Hitonhauta. Near the school is the Sumiainen youth center Sumppu and the Sumiainen library.

Functionality is a key part of our operating culture, and we make use of nearby camping sites such as Kettuhiekka, Mörköpolku, Hitonhauta and the Kangaslammi area in our teaching. We swim at the school beach in spring and autumn, weather permitting. We ski on ice and on a slope that starts right in the school yard. The skating rink is also in active use during the baseball season. It's not a long way to the nearby sports field either, and the beautiful Rantaraitti allows for pleasant walks. Multidisciplinary drama projects have been part of the academic year for several years. All students and numerous other cooperating parties participate in these projects.

Koulunmäki Unified School

Koulunmäki unified school is the largest school in Äänekoski, with about a thousand students in the center of Äänekoski. The school has grades 1-6. and upper grades 7-9. The A building of Koulunmäki school is new and modern, the B building is an old, valuable site and the new C building will be completed in 2025 and currently the middle school students are in evacuation rooms. Near the school in the center, all city services, the library and sports facilities are within walking distance.

Suolahti Unified School

The Suolahti unified school is the second largest school in Äänekoski. 1.-9. there are about 600 students in the class and 73 staff members. The school has long traditions and the teaching facilities are new and modern. Suolahti unified school has excellent sports facilities: there is an ice rink, an artificial turf field, a Frisbee golf course, two gymnasiums, a gym and a swimming pool. In addition, the school has active international activities.

Kongingkanka school

Konginkankaa school offers a good growth environment for the child! The school is located in the center of Konginkanka, in the middle of beautiful nature and lake scenery and close to services, such as youth facilities and a library. Konginkangka school has pre-school and grades 1-6. The school has a village school-like atmosphere and in a country school, children get to be children for a long time!

Koivisto school

Koivisto's school is inventive and vibrant, a genuine village school in the scenic fields of Koivistonkylä, near Hirvaskanga. In addition to the log school building completed in 2019, there is also an over 100-year-old old school called Perinnetalo. In May 2024, a kindergarten was completed in connection with Hirsikoulu.

Hietama school

Hietama school is located in the center of Hietama village and is the heart of the whole village and also the nearby school of Paranta village. The school has pre-school education and grades 1-6. Hietama school is a village school-like, familiar and safe school, where nature is a part of everyday life and there are good local exercise opportunities and a shelter. Honkola school

Honkola's beautiful and traditional village school is located in the middle of nature, on the edge of the forest. The forest named Humpala for children is used a lot both in teaching and as a playground during recess. At the school in Honkola, 1.-6. -classes. Äänekoski high school

Äänekoski high school, originally Äänekoski Yhteiskoulu, was founded in 1931. The old high school was located on the side of the forest factory on the banks of the Häränvirta river. The new Äänekoski high school building was completed in the summer of 2017.

Northern Central Finland Vocational College

Pohjoinen Central Finland's vocational college offers teaching in several different courses. The necessary competence has been acquired or will be acquired through work experience in the field and theoretical studies. The degree qualifies for university of applied sciences studies and a university degree.
