A long-awaited youth cafe operation is currently being planned for Äänekoski
Enthusiastic operators are welcome to join

The young people of Äänekoski have been proposing the establishment of a youth cafe for years. Also at last winter's consultation evening, the young people hoped for a youth cafe that would be open later and that would supplement the services of Äänekoski's four youth centers and mobile youth work. The activity could be for young people aged around 14-18.
The youth cafe issue has now been moved forward. Family Center Coordinator Petri Oinonen six city employees are involved in the planning working group.
- The most important thing in youth cafe operations is that young people have a place where they can gather and where there are safe adults, Petri Oinonen says.
- We have made cost calculations and they are still being refined. The plans are for the youth cafe to be open three evenings a week. The operation could start in the fall at the earliest, but the start of the operation depends on which space is chosen and who is running the operation.
So far, ten different spaces in the center of Äänekoski have been examined from different perspectives for youth cafe activities. No decisions have been made regarding the facilities yet.
The city of Äänekoski needs partners to get the youth cafe business going. The working group has made extensive inquiries to the various operators in Äänekoski, whether they would be interested in participating in some way in the youth cafe operation. The planning group has inquired about the willingness of 66 different parties. The message has been sent to cultural and sports organizations, parishes, educational institutions and other volunteers.
So far, Suolahten Urho, Äänesalo Martat ry and Äänekoski 4H association have promised to participate. Answers were also received from the Äänekoski Teatteri support association and POKE, which could possibly be involved later. Interested volunteers and associations can contact Petri Oinose.
