Planning Review 2025: New plots bring builders and vitality to Äänekoski

The Äänekoski City Board approved the zoning review for 2025. It presents the zoning program for the following years 2025-2027; the preliminary schedules and primary objectives of the planning projects that are pending and will be initiated in the near future.
– The planning of the city of Äänekoski aims to actively promote the development of the city and increase its vitality. Only those projects that we can promote according to the schedule are included in the planning review, Planning Manager Nina Marjoniemi says.
According to the plans, six brand new town plan projects will be launched in 2025 that have not been previously processed, such as Abrahaminranta to Hernevalkamaa, the Koukkuniemi expansion area, the Pukinpuisto area, the Suolahti Asemakatu town plan and the western side of Nakertaja. Three of these have now been launched in January.
– In Abrahaminranta, waterfront construction is being reviewed. It would be possible to obtain good waterfront plots on the Keitele shore on the land owned by the city. There are currently no waterfront plots for sale in the Äänekoski city center area, but some will be available in Muhluniemi and Koivisto in the spring, Marjoniemi says.
– An expansion of the local plan is planned for Koukkuniemi, which would create large business areas in the future, utilizing the Akanniemi interchange.
In the Pukinpuisto area, consideration is being given to, among other things, a new building site/sites suitable for care services, as well as the possibility of allocating new terraced house plots.
– The Hirvaskangas area is also of interest and its development will be continued in close cooperation with the Central Finland ELY Centre and the municipality of Uurainen.

Two sub-general formulas under consideration
The pending partial master plans are the Mämme partial master plan II and the Kiuassuo wind power area partial master plan.
The review of modernity has become topical in several partial master plans of the villages of the city of Äänekoski. The Mämme area has been opened for review first. The plan project examines the entire Mämme master plan area as a whole, especially with regard to construction areas. During 2025, the plan aims to present the area's zoning principles for approval and prepare a building inventory and a draft plan for collecting feedback.
The second partial master plan project in the Äänekoski area is the partial master plan for the Kiuassuo wind power area.
Eolus Finland Oy has started a study on the suitability of Kiuassuo as a wind power production area. 14 wind turbines are initially planned for the project area, 11 of which will be located in the city of Äänekoski and three in the municipality of Laukaa. In addition to the zoning, a statutory environmental impact assessment (EIA) procedure will be prepared for the area. The planning takes into account the results of the EIA study and the views of landowners and other stakeholders. The applicant aims to implement the project in cooperation with landowners, the city and other authorities, respecting local conditions. The project's participation and assessment plan will be available from 18.12.2024 to 31.1.2025.

Residents are consulted and actively involved
The city of Äänekoski's zoning projects can be followed on the city's website and residents can provide feedback during the viewing hours.
– The residents of Äänekoski are active and we have received meaningful feedback and good ideas, says Marjoniemi.
The city of Äänekoski organizes Planning Afternoons a few times a year, in which people have actively participated and have received good ideas for the development of the city. The next Planning Afternoon will be organized at the end of the summer, for example, in the Abrahaminranta and Pukinpuisto areas.
– We can organize an event in the spring, even if the draft plan is not yet ready. We can present the versions we have made to the residents and get a preliminary perspective, Marjoniemi says.
