Karhunlähti kindergarten turns 50 years old
"The goal is to create a good everyday life for the child, the best possible"

Karhunlähti daycare center celebrated its fiftieth anniversary last week and the current building turns 40 years old. The whole house people and families have celebrated in many ways. The staff put together a wonderful exhibition in the gym, which is a cross-section of the different decades of the kindergarten from the 70s to today. On display are familiar toys from different eras, books, newspaper clippings and photographs, as well as other kindergarten items. Children and their parents were able to get to know the exhibition with an ice cream serving.
In addition to the exhibition, a timeline of the kindergarten and a nanny are on display Kikka Raitanen memories of everyday life in kindergarten in the form of drawings. You can really see a changed world in the drawings! The children's families could also participate in the teddy bear exhibition, where each home could bring a teddy bear on display. And of course, the children's own works have also been exhibited in groups.
The celebration week has also included e.g. puppet show and cake and has been open for families are all week. Many parents have themselves been cared for in the same kindergarten at one time.
- Our strength is that there are so many of us employees, so with cooperation it was possible to realize such an exhibition. We also have a lot of long-term employees who still remember very well what the operations were like 40-50 years ago, myself having worked as an early childhood education teacher at the Karhunlähti kindergarten for 40 years Soile Hassi says.

Maid Huuskonen and 3 years old Hearts went to see the kindergarten exhibition together after the care day.
- Toys familiar from your own childhood are also on display here, so you can compare what kind of toys your own child has now, says Piia Huuskonen.
Hertta likes to play with ponies and barbies now. The old teddy bear of the father of the family was brought to the teddy bear exhibition. The family has been satisfied with Karhunlähte kindergarten.
- It has been nice to follow the everyday life of the daycare center also through the Instagram account, thanks Piia Huuskonen.

Play, embrace and inclusion
50 years ago, the Karhunlähte daycare center started its operations on the ground floor of an apartment building, all the while the operation has expanded and the new daycare center was completed 40 years ago. The daycare center was renovated in the 2010s to make it more up-to-date and practical. For example, the old swimming pool and fireplace have been dismantled and additional space has been obtained.
You can see from the exhibition that many things have changed in the operation of daycare centers in 50 years, but the basic things have remained the same.
- The basic story has not changed. There is still music, exercise, manual skills, nature and excursions. Play and presence are the most important. Today, children's participation is emphasized: although adults plan the framework of the activity, children's wishes are listened to. And digital skills are already practiced in kindergarten. Cooperation with families has also become closer already with the early childhood education plans, deputy director Anu Talvilahti says.
The play has remained the same, but the toys have changed and what is always in fashion. On the other hand, children have always played, for example, house play or house play, and outdoor activities are always pleasant for children.
- High-quality early childhood education is the presence and embrace of an adult. The goal is to create a good everyday life for the child, the best possible, Talvilahti says.
