The city of Äänekoski offers plenty of summer jobs for young people
The city of Äänekoski once again offers plenty of summer jobs for young people. The city employs a total of 153 young people, which is 20 jobs more than the previous year. In particular, 9 young people finishing 131th grade are employed by the city this summer, which is a clear increase from last year's 108 jobs. On the other hand, there are 16 older young people aged 18-22, compared to 25 last year.
The activity of young people in summer job applications has also increased. This year, the city received 241 summer job applications, compared to 230 the previous year. This shows that especially young people finishing the 9th grade are even more interested in the opportunities offered by the city.
The investment of the city of Äänekoski in summer employment for young people is significant. The city wants to support the well-being of young people and the development of working life skills. By offering a wide range of summer jobs, the city of Äänekoski invests in the future of young people and creates conditions for a meaningful summer.
- We have succeeded and the young people appreciate the city of Äänekoski as an employer, because many of the parents have had summer jobs with us before. In summer jobs, young people learn working life skills and how to apply for a job, and older young people also gain experience in job interviews, summer job counselor Outi Ojanen says.
Summer work is done from June to July, and at the Äänekoski Art Museum in August. Äänekoski's Property Management employs 75 young people, most of whom take care of green areas and sports facilities. Young people also work in other property maintenance and cleaning services. In the city's units, most work with children in kindergartens, Huuha's family park, and school children's day activities. There are also summer youth workers in the swimming halls, the library, the art museum and the starting workshop.
- The young people were able to wish for the job they liked best, and we were surprisingly able to fulfill their wishes. This year too, it was taken into account that the workplace would be as close as possible to the young person's home, says Ojanen.
Summer entrepreneurship is supported
The city of Äänekoski supports young summer entrepreneurs with a summer entrepreneurship voucher. About 250 entrepreneurship vouchers of 90 euros were issued this year.
- Entrepreneurship education in schools can be seen in the number of applications! There were quite a lot of applicants who had previously worked as summer entrepreneurs, or siblings from the same family have been enthusiastic, says Ojanen.
- There are entrepreneurs from many fields, in many different agglomerations and villages. Young people have good and versatile ideas.
In addition, city summer work vouchers are awarded to local companies. The aid is intended for the salary costs of young people. These applications are still being processed.
