ÄKSport project bulletin: High-quality sports training for children and young people
The children and young people of Äänekoski are offered versatile training under the coaching of professionals. 7-15 year olds are offered high-quality sports coaching without commitment to just one sport or club. The goal of the new project is to get young people involved in sports.
Background of the project
More than half of the children and young people aged 7-15 cite external obstacles as an obstacle to their exercise hobby: there are no opportunities for an interesting sport close to home, schoolwork takes time and you don't have to go out for exercise. We specialize in one sport and stop practicing too early. The hobby does not continue as far into adolescence as would be desirable. What is needed is the opportunity to freely try different sports, high-quality and versatile content, and the opportunity to exercise together with friends and thereby find a form of exercise that suits you and a commitment to exercise.
What?
In Äänekoski, the ÄKSport - Youth Path to Movement project, financed by the Ministry of Education and Culture and implemented in cooperation between Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences and the city of Äänekoski, has started. According to the project, the young people who are accepted are offered the opportunity to try all the sports that can be practiced in Äänekoski, in high-quality coaching by professional coaches without committing to club activities. Coaches are responsible for training Heikki Nurmi ja Tommi Koskinen, who work on Jamki's books for the duration of the project. The goal is to support children and young people to find a suitable way of exercising and to commit to exercise, which would later continue to be active in some sport. In addition, the project supports hobbies that are perceived as important together with friends.
Where?
Coaching takes place after school three times a week: Mondays from 15.30:17.00 PM to 15.30:17.00 PM, Wednesdays from 1:XNUMX PM to XNUMX:XNUMX PM, and Fridays from XNUMX:XNUMX PM to XNUMX:XNUMX PM.5.00 – 16.30:XNUMX, i.e. immediately after the end of the school day, taking into account school trips. The exercises take place mainly in Äänekoski using various sports facilities and sports hobby facilities and are free of charge.
To whom?
We are looking for children and young people aged 11–13 who are interested in versatile training and ready to commit to training for 1,5 years. The group size is limited to 15-20 children and young people, so that the coaches have enough time for individual coaching as well. The final participant selections are made based on the initial surveys carried out by the coaches. The admission requirement is normal physical activity and motivation to exercise for the entire duration of the project, i.e. until the end of 2025. In the group, you can also diversify your own training, if you feel that there are not enough exercises in your sport.
