Äänekoski has the fairest class in Finland
"The best thing about our school is that it is so small and everyone knows each other"
The 6th grade of Äänekoski's Koivisto school won Finland's fairest class 2021 competition, which is organized annually by Koululainen-lehti. - In our school, we openly talk about class spirit and how to get along well with each other. A lot of tasks are also done in pairs and in groups, the principal and the teacher of the winning class Matti Kuusinen says.
The Koivisto school rules also state that bullying, harming, harassment and discrimination are prohibited in the school. - Even in a small class, a lot happens in terms of friendships every week, but the general direction has been nicely turned into a positive one. Thanks to everyone for this, says Kuusinen.
There are 6 students in the 12th grade of Koivisto school. The students of Finland's fairest class competition did different tasks. The teacher praises that the tasks were done with high quality, in good harmony and with enthusiasm. The class held a mascot contest, which was won by the stuffed monkey Martti. With the help of the mascot, the students described how they would welcome a new student in the class. - Two new students have joined our class, so the task was quite easy for us. The most important thing is the spirit of the class, getting to know each other and being friendly, from the winning class Kerttu Toivoinen says.
One of the competition tasks was to make the class's own magazine. The magazine made by the students of Koivisto school contains current news, stories about the school's community projects and a lot of humor.
"We take everything with us"
Koivisto school in Äänekoski has wonderful details. There is a friend's bench in the yard, where you can sit if you don't have a playmate. Single people go there to pick it up. - That way no one is left alone. With us, everyone is included in classes and breaks, says Kerttu Toivoinen.
All the kind deeds of the school are put on the ball board, and a lot of balls have accumulated in a short time. Headmaster Matti Kuusinen has built a detailed miniature version of Koivisto school with students and teachers out of Legos in the lobby. - The best thing about our school is that it is so small and everyone knows each other, Ronja Erkkilä thinking.
The city of Äänekoski has invested heavily in schools in recent years, and Koivisto's new log school building has been in use for two years. The students praise that the new school has more space, spaciousness and, in addition to traditional classrooms, also creative spaces. - The school also looks good, Pinja Suutala says. - There are details and colors here. There is more to do and the space has been used creatively, Matilda Puranen more.
Koululainen magazine, which organized the competition, publishes a story about the winning class in Äänekoski in its January issue.
The prize for winning Finland's fairest class was tubettaj Niko ja Santu to visit the school. The students say that the tubers were interested, for example, in the class's wheel of fortune, which has many different uses - it can be used to draw pairs. There is a video from Koivisto's school the 9th slot of the tubettaje Christmas calendar and it can be found here.
A school with a heart is also the heart of the entire village
The new log school building completed in 2019 and the old, nearly hundred-year-old school sit nicely side by side in the common courtyard and the beautiful field landscapes of Koivisto village. At the old school, Perinnetalo - more familiarly known as Pertsa - students still make wood crafts.
The village school is the heart of the residential area. - We go here in the evenings and on weekends to have fun, the students say.
The heart repeats itself in the school logo, which combines the new and old tree. The heart shape can also be found, for example, on the outer wall of the school, and the floor of the sports hall does not have a central circle, but a central heart. Several hearts can be found on the Lego miniature model of the school made by the principal.
Koivisto's school is currently running a joint Christmas calendar project for the whole school, which you can follow on the school's own YouTube channel. That too is done together.
