Äänekoski's digital tourism product demos and a manual on the use of XR in tourism published
The Tourism Industry Change Needs and Digital Accessibility project funded by the Ministry of Labor and Economy ended at the end of 2021. As a result of the project, the Doerz sales channel was selected for Äänekoski tourism, the Sustainable Travel Finland program for sustainable tourism was promoted both for companies and the entire Äänekoski Tourism Region, and a total of 14 digital tourism product demos were developed.
Some of the product demos have already been published on Visit Äänekoski's website at https://www.visitaanekoski.fi/hankkeet/matkailuhankkeen-tuotteet. In addition to the demos, a manual on the use of XR, i.e. augmented reality, in tourism and its marketing was published on the website. The manual also contains tips on how to start building a digital tourism product.
"Matkailu's digital project was a great opportunity for Äänekoski tourism to try something completely new and bold. Through the project, we really learned a lot about how XR can be used both in tourism and in its marketing. With the further development of the demo products, it is also possible to think about the earning logic for them and develop Äänekoski's digital tourism and its accessibility even further," sums up the project's project expert Laura Kortelainen.
Many demo products were built on the ThingLink platform, which supports, among other things, 360 photos and videos. The license of the platform remains with the city, and the aim is to utilize it both in tourism and in increasing the digital accessibility of cultural services in the future as well.
In addition to accessibility, the competitiveness of tourism companies is increased by choices in business to promote sustainable development. For this purpose, Business Finland's free Sustainable Travel Finland program was promoted. The program includes four tourism companies from Tunakoski. Äänekoski as a tourist destination also joined the program. The program will also be promoted after the project and the aim is to get more and more companies involved.
Äänekoski's Doerz platform can be found on the Visit Äänekoski website. It is easy to add your own local experience to sales on the platform. "Adding products to the platform is easy and inexpensive, and it can also be done without a business ID. Now it's worth preparing for the ski holiday season and thinking about, for example, some winter experience activity to sell!" Laura Kortelainen encourages.
