The economy of the city of Äänekoski is stable and strong
Last year's financial statements have a surplus of EUR 2,1 million
On Monday, March 28.3.2022, 2021, the Äänekoski city government processed last year's 2,1 financial statements, which have a surplus of EUR XNUMX million.
For the financial year 2021, an additional mandatory provision of 2,0 million euros affecting the result was made to cover the 2021 deficit of the Central Finland Hospital District. A mandatory reserve of 1,1 million euros was recorded from the surplus of the previous fiscal years to cover the hospital district's deficit for the years 2019-2020. In addition, additional depreciation of 0,9 million euros was made for the old C building of Koulunmäki Unified School. The building will be replaced with a new school building during the years 2022-2024.
- Taking into account the above-mentioned extra expenses, the result of the financial year can be considered excellent, CFO of the city of Äänekoski I met Hämäläinen says.
The good result was influenced, among other things, by increased tax revenues. Overall, the city's tax revenues increased by around 6,4 million euros, i.e. an increase of no less than 8,6 percent. Corporate income tax was 11,9 million euros and the collection was more than 40 percent better than the previous year.
Last year, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health received 2,5 million euros in corona assistance.
Last year, the city invested a total of 8,3 million euros and the income financing was sufficient compared to the investments. The largest investment targets were the Koulunmäki school (2,7 million euros), the overpressure hall (0,8 million euros), Painotalo (0,4 million euros) and the Alkula kindergarten (0,2 million euros). A million euros were invested in traffic lanes, as well as in parks, public areas and other land construction projects. Half a million euros were spent on leisure projects.
Expenditures increased especially due to the treatment of the corona pandemic and increasing personnel costs. Loans were repaid by 2,9 million euros, so the loan per inhabitant was 3 euros.
The effects of the SOTE change on the economy are not yet known
Tapani Hämäläinen reminds us that the upcoming social security change is an unknown leap for the entire municipal sector, and not all of its financial effects are known yet. In addition, the transition of TE services to the responsibility of the municipalities in 2024 will have an impact on the city's economy.
- Inflation is high, interest rates and prices are rising, and salary solutions in the municipal sector are being negotiated. In addition, Russia's attack on Ukraine generally affects economic growth and brings uncertainty, says Hämäläinen.
- Although the accumulated surplus of 11 million euros provides a good buffer for the uncertain years to come, it is now very important to maintain strict financial discipline and prepare for a bad day.
At the end of the year, the population of Äänekoski was 18, which is 304 less than a year ago. There were 273 births and 138 deaths.
There were 1 unemployed jobseekers at the end of the year, which was 109 fewer than a year earlier. In addition to corporate tax revenues, the fact that Äänekoski had 436 open jobs at the end of the year, compared to 124 a year ago, speaks of the companies' vitality.
The Äänekoski city council will discuss the financial statement at its meeting on June 13.6.2022, XNUMX.
