Encounters and experiences for young people from Kesäkaara in Äänekoski
Äänekoski's youth summer full of opportunities! The city's active youth work continues throughout the summer at the mobile youth work Kesäkaara. With Kesäkaara, young people can enjoy versatile activities throughout the summer, and the library is also on board! Kesäkaara is designed especially for the needs of young people, and the most important thing is authentic interaction and encounter.
In the summer, Suolahti's youth center is also open, where young people can gather and hang out. Spot organizes summer and activity days. The city of Äänekoski has also invested in amusement park trips, camps and nature sports for young people, which offer young people fun things to do, variety and experiences.
By organizing versatile summer activities for young people, the city wants to increase the well-being and inclusion of young people.
Mobile youth work is not just games and gimmicks
Kesäkaara visits every agglomeration throughout the summer. The people of Kesäkaara always announce the stops on Instagram and Facebook at the beginning of the week. There are nice things to do and small treats are often included. This summer, metal detectors have been popular, which have been tried especially at camps.
- In mobile youth work, behind all the games, pranks and fun, the most important thing is meeting young people. The most important thing is that an adult is present for young people. The job is primarily meeting young people in schoolyards, parks, swimming beaches and where young people spend their free time, youth worker Tuukka Vuorinen says.
- The main thing in Kesäkaara is above all genuine meeting and listening to young people. Youth workers are present and ready to talk with young people about their needs and wishes. Kesäkaara is an example of how youth work can be taken to where young people spend their time, offering them meaningful encounters and experiences, youth worker Ari Uusitalo says.
Kesäkaara, a mobile youth night, has toured Äänekoski during the summer since 2017. Doing youth work in Äänekoski is not only Kesäkaara. When Kesäkaara is in winter camps, mobile youth work is done at Äänekoski schools and youth facilities. The youth service is voluntary for young people, and nothing is forced.
- As adults, we are for young people in young people's leisure environments. It doesn't always have to be an activity, it's enough that we're present. On the other hand, young people can try games and different sports, even a hopper board, if they don't have their own, says Vuorinen.
- The workers of the mobile youth work do not see much of the young people's nausea or the use of substances. A large part of Äänekoski's young people are doing well, and those who are doing poorly often do even worse.
The mobile youth work in Äänekoski meets dozens, even hundreds of young people every week, and records are also kept of them, but in impressive youth work, the number is not always the most important thing.
Young people are encouraged to read
People from the library with their books and games also often jump aboard the Kesäkaara. In spring and autumn, Kesäkaara works for schools in green areas, so-called as a library car.
- Cooperation with Kesäkaara over the past couple of years has been an absolutely amazing thing. Äänekoski is a large area and this way we can reach young people better. We encourage people of all ages to read and we have reached out to readers, because each time young people have also borrowed books from Kesäkaara, library clerk Autumn Siitari says.
At the beginning of June, a beach tour was organized in all urban areas. Kesäkaara goes to youth camps and rip-off camps. We also visit the units of the welfare area from time to time, and last week Kesäkaara kurvasi Mintake.
This week, Kesäkaara and the young people visit the Äänekoski senior center. Kesäkaara activity points have been planned together with young people for the elderly involved in day activities. There will be accordion music and there will be meetings of different generations, joy and refreshment for all ages. At Äänekoski, we grow with you!
