How does the idea of a million steps sound? A million steps is one of the challenges to encourage central Finns to be stronger.
The goal is to walk the number of steps on your own schedule, challenging yourself to move more than usual. A million steps may sound like quite a number, but by dividing the steps into monthly goals, it starts to sound quite walkable.

All Central Finns are invited to join the Central Finland is moving 2030 agenda!
- Central Finland is an exercise province, but we also have room for improvement in everyday exercise. Our common goal is to increase the physical activity of central Finns and reduce sedentary time by 15 percent by 2030, explains the regional director of Keski-Suomen Liikunta ry Petri Lehtoranta a challenge thrown at the province.
According to Lehtoranta, reaching the goal is monitored with indicators selected for different target groups, such as the Move! used in primary schools. with measurements. Municipalities and work associations are supported with various practical measures.

Fitness leaders going along!
- We, the municipal leaders of Central Finland, have committed ourselves to act as fitness leaders and to communicate our daily exercise activities. Our goal is to activate the citizens and promote participation and community together with exercise, says the chairman of Central Finland's municipal leaders, the mayor of Hankasalmi Matti Mäkinen.
For example, the municipality of Kannonkoski invests in the promotion of physical activity for municipal residents of all ages, listening to the wishes and needs, recruiting instructors and actively applying for project funding.
- A small municipality moves big! Our cooperation with the Piispala youth center significantly expands our daily exercise opportunities. And that's not all: work to promote young people's physical activity is also carried out across municipal borders during the Crazy Action evenings, rejoices the youth, culture and welfare officer from Kannonkoski, who received the Liikuntateko award at the 2024 Central Finland Sports Gala Tarja Alainen.
Business leaders to speed up business
The agenda also wants to increase employers' awareness of the importance of exercise for coping at work.
- The intermediate squat challenge reminds us of the importance of exercise during working days and the importance of exercise for well-being at work in general. We especially challenge the business managers of Central Finland to speed up their business. Now you can squat with a permit, promises the CEO of Keski-Suomen Yrittäjie Sanna-Mari Jyräkoski.
You can participate in the intermediate squat challenge by sharing squat videos, challenging other communities and using a challenge image to remind you of the need for exercise breaks, especially during sitting meetings.
