The residents were unanimous in the afternoon of planning in Suolahti:
The Kukkulanmäki area is a real gem
The subject of the Äänekoski town planning afternoon workshop on February 8.2.2023, XNUMX was the change of the site plan of Suolahti Kukkula and the surrounding area. The goal is to get plan drafts for the area this year, and the old plan regulations will be updated.
From the city, Paula Junikka from zoning services was involved, and Juha Koskinen and Päivi Peltoniemi from the plot side. A couple of dozen residents came by the afternoon and there was plenty to talk about in the Suolahti library's club room.
Before the decision is made, the residents can voice their opinions on the drafts: first there is a view of the draft phase, on which feedback can be given, and then a plan proposal is drawn up, on which feedback can also be given during the viewing period.
The city of Äänekoski wanted to involve the residents well in advance, even before the drafts were drawn up, and to hear their wishes, which will be taken into account in the zoning of the area. Nature surveys are currently being conducted in the area.
- Now we can think about the area from a completely clean slate, and the people living in the area must agree with what is planned for the area, land use manager Juha Koskinen your inches.
Kukkulanmäki is a good recreation area for everyone
About 20 residents came to the afternoon of zoning and there was plenty to talk about in the Suolahti library's club room. The townspeople's view on the development of the 8,8-hectare area seemed to be clear and consistent: In addition to the current housing, they want to keep the area of the hill in as natural a state as possible and for recreational use - which it is now. Perhaps the area could also be developed to suit culture and tourism. The residents' association has left its own view on this to the city.
On Kukkulanmäki you can get to nature in the middle of the city, and from there you can see wonderful landscapes of Keitele. The residents reminded that the Kukkulanmäki area is "the pole of the world" for its residents and a really meaningful place. The area is a real gem for the whole city and it is part of the valuable whole of Suolahten Wanha station and harbor. The current barbecue shelter is actively used by city dwellers of all ages and the area is good for everyone. It could be developed even better and more accessible. We are also satisfied with the new fitness stairs.
- Sometimes when you do less, you can get more. Sometimes when you do even less, you can get even more, one of the residents stated.
The area must be alive, the place of a living village, without disturbing the neighbors, but no big construction is wanted there. Together, we also thought about the fact that a good formula will later enable things and activities that you don't even know how to think about yet. You don't want to be a brake on development, even if you come up with good ideas later.
The residents are also considering building a possible third access route on top of the hill, which would increase the usability and accessibility of the nature site. An observation tower facing Keitele was also dreamed of, and it has been mentioned in the initiative of the residents' association.
- We have to think about what the area is needed for and what is its correct use, and not spoil it by rushing. If the area is just a green area in the plan, nothing is allowed there. The formula can enable certain things, but on the other hand, there is no obligation to do them there. Even a new route can be shown in the plan, even if it is never implemented, explained Koskinen.
The city of Äänekoski invests in the strong participation and genuine interaction of its residents, and operates in accordance with the principles of open administration. Zoning afternoons are organized a few times a year. They offer a new way for the people of Tonkosko to participate in zoning and land use planning, as well as the opportunity to give praise and feedback.
