The goal of the sustainable Äänekoski project is to make climate work a permanent part of all activities in the city of Äänekoski
The Ministry of the Environment has granted funding Life-sustaining Äänekoski − The effects of a fair circular economy on the carbon footprint - for the project. The project's funding is 97 euros, of which the Ministry of the Environment's funding share is 883% and the city of Äänekoski's own funding is 70%. The project's target group is the entire city and its duration is September 30, 1.9.2022-December 31.12.2023, XNUMX.
The goal of the Life-sustaining Äänekoski project is to integrate climate and circular economy work into a permanent part of the city's operations and to commit management, industries and decision-makers to climate and circular economy goals. The main goal of the project is to demonstrate that properly targeted climate work can create permanent cost savings.
Life-sustaining Äänekoski − The effects of a fair circular economy on the carbon footprint
If successful, the project will have significant effects on reducing greenhouse emissions. In Äänekoski, the largest emissions come from movement and buildings, the reduction of which emissions will be promoted with the help of the project.
- The project will implement the environmental and climate program being prepared by the city of Äänekoski. The city of Äänekoski is committed to climate work in the HINKU network and the goal is to develop the organization's internal climate and circular economy work by strengthening the activities of the Hinku working group and by hiring a climate coordinator for the city, describes the environmental manager of the city of Äänekoski Hanna Ahonen.
Sustainable movement and strong cooperation
The primary goal of the project is to promote sustainable movement. A development plan is drawn up for walking and cycling, which also includes a report on the development needs of Äänekoski's light traffic lanes.
- The walking and cycling development plan helps the MAL municipality to get state aid for the development of the light transport network, Ahonen says.
In accordance with the city strategy, residents will be involved in the project, and a survey will also be conducted on the sustainable mobility needs of employees, residents and companies in the area. In addition, the project aims to promote the use of emission-free vehicles.
Another main goal is to strengthen cooperation in climate goals. The personnel of the city of Äänekoski will be activated to use the expert help of the hired climate coordinator, the existing network of eco-support staff will be strengthened, residents and companies will be encouraged to make sustainable choices and good cooperation with the surrounding municipalities will continue.
The city's management and decision-makers also want to be more involved in climate work. For example, from the development plan to be drawn up, the decision-makers get a clear picture of the current situation of walking and cycling, its development needs, and better preparedness for promoting sustainable movement in decision-making and also when preparing the budget.
A natural continuation of the Green Renewable Äänekoski project
A three year old of the Green Renewable Äänekoski project climate work has already been integrated into the activities of the Äänekoski city organization. The Green Renewable Äänekoski project ends on July 31.7.2022, XNUMX, and the new project is a continuation of the work already started.
The goal of both projects is to make climate work a permanent part of all activities in the city of Äänekoski.
The recruitment of the climate coordinator for the sustainable Äänekoski project will start in July 2022.
In addition to the Äänekoski project, the Ministry of the Environment granted grants to 19 other projects that promote climate work and the circular economy in municipalities. A total of approximately 1,3 million euros will be allocated to development projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the use of natural resources.
