Metsä Group and Poke are intensifying their cooperation
The collaboration between Metsä Group and Poke educational institutions helps students find employment and increases the region's vitality. Operations will start in Ääneseud in 2024.
Metsä Group is a major player in Central Finland and manufactures cardboard, pulp and wood products in the region.
- We are developing educational cooperation with Northern Central Finland Vocational College as a whole Metsä Group, and our common goal is to secure future talent and offer internships also to minor students in the region, says Metsä Group's personnel manager Lasse Brandt.
Director of education at the Poke vocational college in Northern Central Finland Marko Lahten according to that, a good and long-term cooperation with Metsä Group helps students find employment and increases the vitality and attractiveness of the entire region.
- It's great that even minor students can get to know the work in Metsä Group's units during their studies, because this enables on-the-job learning at an earlier stage of their studies, a more versatile orientation and better working conditions in the future as well, says Lahti.
Metsä Group and Poke have jointly created a planned forest path, which commits students to work placements during their studies and whose desired end result would be employment after graduation.
Thanks to Metsäpolu, many students from different fields can apply to Metsä Group's various units during their studies to train and learn on the job. Mainly the work assignments concern students with a bachelor's degree in process industry, but students with a bachelor's degree in electrical and automation and mechanical and production technology, and possibly other degree fields, also have the opportunity to apply for an internship.
- Metsäpolku also serves Metsä Group, because this way we can engage students in working life at an earlier stage, Lahti states.
