Metsä Wood's change negotiations ended
Metsä Wood announced on December 4.12.2024, XNUMX, that the change negotiations at the Suolahti factories that started in October have ended. The permanent personnel of the Suolahti factories are offered work in other Metsä Group production facilities.
Production at the birch plywood factory in Suolahti will end by the end of March 2025, and production at the softwood plywood factory will end by the end of 2026 at the latest. The change negotiations concerned the entire personnel of the factories, about 370 people.
- The city of Äänekoski is grateful that the employer Metsä Wood handles these change negotiations responsibly and is genuinely concerned about its personnel. In the first phase, when the birch plywood factory ends, layoffs will probably be completely avoided, city manager Matti Tuononen toteaa.
- I have discussed with the branch manager of Metsä Wood Jaakko Anttilan with. There will inevitably be layoffs during the transition phase, but when the new factory is completed, most of the birch plywood factory's employees will be located there. Employees are also trained with the apprenticeship contract, and some are transferred to the production of softwood plywood.
- The year 2025 looks better now and the employees will be able to celebrate Christmas in a better mood, says Tuononen.
