The Ovi auki taiteule project has started - Ideation evening on February 22
The Ovi auku taiteule project, funded by the arts promotion center Taike and coordinated by Äänekoski's cultural activities, has started at the beginning of this year. Visual artist Elina Laitinen, who started her work at the Konginkanka service center, was chosen as the community artist for the project. The goal of the community artist is to bring making and experiencing art into the everyday life of the service center, but other villagers are also warmly welcome to the activity.
- The idea is that an art exhibition will be organized in the summer, which will spread around the village, Laitinen envisions.
The works included in the exhibition are planned and realized in community art workshops held during the spring.
The ideation evening for the exhibition will be held at the Konginkanka service center on Thursday, February 22.2. from 16 to 18 p.m.
Elina Laitinen is a visual artist and clothing designer who graduated from Aalto University. She describes her artistic work as material-based art. Laitinen mostly uses recycled and found materials in his own works.
In the role of a community artist, Laitinen builds the contents in interaction with the participants. Equal consideration of the participants and immediate presence are at the heart of making community art.
Konginkanka's active village community is familiar to Laitinen from long ago. The Helsinki-based artist worked at Konginkanga in the summer of 2018 as part of a project by the Rural Culture Association. At that time, Konginkangas got two of its own printing patterns and a patchwork piece for the museum wall.
