On Tree Day, birch trees are planted in Koivisto

Tree Day has been celebrated in Finland since 2004, i.e. 20 years this year. The purpose of the Tree Day is to draw attention to the importance and protection of trees and forests. On the national holiday, people are encouraged to plant trees, among other things. The city of Äänekoski took up this challenge and decided to plant birch saplings provided by Metsä Group in the yard of the new Koivisto kindergarten.
Koivisto koiviko - the seedlings grow along the growth path
At the beginning of the year, the city of Äänekoski organized an internal ideation day, where projects to be developed in different areas of the city strategy were thought about. One of the ideas that came up was the realization of a godman's forest in Äänekoski. In order to implement the idea, a working group was assembled, which includes city employees and representatives of stakeholders. The purpose of the God's Forest is to create a relationship with the forest for children from an early age.
The working group is mapping possible areas for the park, but before a bigger project, they wanted to do something concrete. The new kindergarten that just opened in Koivisto will have its own "growth path" in honor of Tree Day, where nine small birch saplings will be planted, whose growth and development the children can follow from the beginning of the kindergarten until the end of elementary school.
Moving forward with cooperation
Metsä Group and Metsänhoitoyhdistys were excited to participate in the design of a park aimed at children. The planting of trees on Arbor Day is just a test effort for the future God's Forest. The birch trees to be planted in the grove have been donated by Metsä Group.

The children of Koivisto's kindergarten were able to plant seedlings smaller than themselves in the ground and name them. The names of the seedlings came from school to kindergarten in order:
1. Flower
2. Clover
3. Worm
4. Grass
5. Alien
6. Ring
7. Snowflake
8. Fox
9. From the ground
Now it's good for the children to follow the growth of the seedlings and see when the tree overtakes them in growth. Thank you to all those who made the tree day possible!
