Suolahti Rock Cafe met the wishes of young people
In the center of Suolahti, rock freshened up when the traditional Rock Cafe event was organized at the youth facilities on Wednesday, October 30. At the event organized by Äänekoski's youth services, two groups formed by local young people, Rattle and Liljan Kukat, performed.
At the gigs, there were fresh loan songs with a focus on rock classics, but during the evening we also heard Riki Sorsa's production. The low-threshold event was organized at the request of the young people, and the young people got to shine in the limelight and behind the scenes of the event. Almost ten years have passed since the previous Rock Cafe, so we could talk about the expected comeback!
In the spring, a consultation event related to participatory budgeting for the city's youth was organized for young people from Äänekoski, where the young people were able to express their own wishes regarding their hometown. The young people wanted, among other things, different events for their free time, which Rock Cafe responded to in part. The performers and the audience were satisfied with the event and the performance gained valuable performance experience.
Backstage is in a good mood. The gigs have just been played and it's time to talk about bands. Before the gigs, the baker did high school math homework and warmed up for the performance. Now the satisfied callers are already in a much more relaxed mood, enjoying the good vibes and the food. The young people give each other immediate positive feedback about their performances, and cooperation patterns are also plotted. Maybe new band projects can be born from this evening.
The bands have been playing together for a few years. Some of the band members started playing as a hobby when they joined the band and have learned to play together. Band activities also require various things to function, such as instruments, practice facilities and, of course, players. Nothing happens by itself, but young people have achieved things on their own. The Rattle band has performed in the Äänekoski art park last summer, and Liljan Kukat has gained performance experience by performing at high school fairs. The bands wished that such performance opportunities would be offered more often and also encouraged others to go boldly towards their own dreams!
There should be more gigs, so that there would be a little more life in Äänekoski. Events get people moving, says Luka Kumo, guitarist and singer of the band Rattle. Vili Viirumäki, the drummer of the Lilja Kukat band, says that he saved his summer work money to buy a drum set, and the band currently practices in the drummer's garage, so it's a genuine garage band. Both bands also have hopes of making and recording their own music. Perhaps you can already expect their own songs from the bands at the next gigs.
The people at the youth services say that they listen carefully to the situation of young bands. Young person, if you want to perform, feel free to contact youth services. Together we can organize opportunities for you young people to shine!
