The renovation of the Suolahti swimming pool is carried out in a cost-effective, high-quality and sustainable manner. The goal is to provide customers and staff with healthy, safe and reliable premises for the next 30 years. The renovation will improve the safety and user experience of the swimming hall's customers, as well as support the well-being of the residents and the versatile recreational activities of Äänekoski. The Suolahti swimming pool, completed in the 1970s, is at the end of its technical useful life. It was last repaired in the 1990s. All facilities in the swimming hall will be renovated, except for the gym and the masseur's work space on the basement floor. The swimming pool's pools and the square footage of other facilities will remain pretty much the same, but the women's sauna, for example, will be even bigger. The swimming hall will also change visually. For example, the lighting technology in the pool area will be renewed and the pool area will become spectacular. The aim is to take accessibility into account even better, e.g. with color contrasts.
The Äänekoski Elderly Council and the Disabled Council have been consulted twice for the renovation. The project has been presented to the city planning board, the city board and the council. Residents' feedback has been taken into account in the planning work.
