"Viidakko" rises in Rantapuisto
Äänekoski's new theme park is a model example of children's participation

A new children's theme park is currently being built in Rantapuisto in the center of Äänekoski. The idea of a theme park originally came from children. Residents have been able to influence the park's theme and location by answering resident surveys. In addition, the children have been able to express their wishes for play equipment, and the children's jury voted for their favorite ensemble as part of the competition for the equipment.
Based on the surveys, the jungle and the underwater world were chosen as the theme. The majority supported Rantapuisto on the merits of its calmness, safety and multi-purpose use. The children's wish is that the playground will have at least a nest swing, a wire slide and ground trampolines.
The ground construction work for the theme park is currently at a good pace, the cutting of the ground has been done and the filling of the structural layers is mostly complete. Next week, the civil engineering contractor will install electrical and control cables and lamp bases in 38 areas.
The installation of the playground equipment will begin after the earthworks are completed, approximately in week 39. After the installation of the playground equipment, the park's artificial grass will be installed in October. In October-November, lampposts and lamps are installed.
The plan is to involve the children later, at least in the name suggestions of the theme park.
400 euros have been set aside for the realization of the dream theme park.
